Meena in Malaysian Business

In Careers Unplugged on September 4, 2009 at 7:24 am

The September 1-15 issue of Malaysian Business has a profile on Meena. The piece has some information about Careers Unplugged, but it does not reference the book talk at Borders The Curve, unfortunately.

One of the insights Meena shares with writer A Shukor Rahman,

Asian organisations emphasis more on personal trust while those from the United States tend to focus more on Key Performance Index (KPI). UK organisations, on the other hand, put a great deal of value on personal relationships.

You can find Meena’s profile on page 51 of the magazine.

Careers Unplugged binding

In Careers Unplugged on July 1, 2009 at 11:52 am

Like many publishers, we perfect bind and stitch bind our books. Perfect bind means the pages are glued together. Stitch bind means the printer has a machine that threads the page spreads together. Stitch bind, of course, is stronger than perfect bind. I have a book called Handy Pocket Guide to Asian Gemstones. Of the four copies on the bookstore shelf, one was severely damaged, two others were on their way to the same fate. Bookstore probably doesn’t care. They can return the books to the publisher at no cost (save the shipping).

My personal copy of Careers Unplugged is peeling out of its cover. I need to replace it lest people get the wrong idea about our books. To be fair to the printer, I haven’t been kind to the book. Careers is the kind of book you want to have lying open on a table. I’m not accustomed to a book about management skills so I’ve recopied certain passages (Chapter 8: Invest in relationship capital) to get a sense of the person behind the writing. This is what interests me about books. The person behind the writing.
